About Us
France holds a special place for our Clan. For centuries, France and Scotland were allied by the Auld Alliance. The Macleans were Jacobites supporting the Stuart cause and in the 18th century, the Maclean Chief was part of the Stuart Court at the Palace of St. Germain-en-Laye. Also, there were Macleans in French regiments such as the King’s Garde Ecossaise.
In 1991, Alan McLean brought together a group of Macleans and Rankins who held their first informal meeting in Paris at the apartment of the well-known flautist John McLean. Subsequently, in 2003 the formation of Clan Maclean Association France (CMAF) was celebrated at a gathering held on a boat moored in front of the Eiffel Tower.
CMAF is the only association of Clan Maclean which is in a non-English speaking country. There are currently 50 members (including children) who meet periodically. These take the form of soirées and dinners in local restaurants. Every two years a group assembles for the Scotland versus France rugby match at the Stade de France. Occasionally we hold joint meetings with Clan Mackenzie, France.
Alan McLean lives and works in France as President of the McLean Group of Companies. He is married to Dr. Elizabeth Jenner-McLean, JP. He has been a Life Member of Clan Maclean Association Scotland since 1988. In 2007 he was elected an Honorary Member of Council of The Clan Maclean International Association in recognition of his ‘outstanding contribution to the Clan’.
Presentation
The following presentation was created for the Virtual Gathering of Clan Maclean in June 2021.

A Taste of CMA France / Un Gout de CMA France.
This automatic slide presentation produced by the Membership Secretary, Elizabeth Jenner-McLean, was included in Updates on the Maclean Associations Around the World which was part of Day 2, International Day.
It aims to showcase some of the events we attend and organise to give those who may be interested in joining our Association an idea of what we are about.
We hope it may encourage you to apply for membership.
